Author, Jill Reiling, Wins The Gradiva Award for Best Children’s Book

For Immediate Release - Fall 2007, First time children’s author, Jill Reiling picked up the prestigious Gradiva Award for Best Children’s Book for her book “Do You Ever Get the Heebie Jeebies?” at this year’s 13th Annual Gradiva Awards. The awards were presented by the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis for literature that was instrumental in the advancement of psychoanalysis at a special awards ceremony held in New York City.

“My mission is to give our children a voice and help them to trust their instincts. This book speaks directly to children in a language and through feelings they can relate to. It is also is meant to educate caregivers on how to guide their children to have appropriate boundaries,” said Ms. Reiling upon receiving the award.

“Do You Ever Get the Heebie Jeebies?” is about an adorable little girl named Gracie and the scenarios that give her an uneasy feeling she refers to as the Heebie Jeebies. Ms. Reiling cleverly uses the term as a synonym for the word instincts as she depicts Gracie in relatable scenarios that may cause those feelings. For example, when Gracie’s cab driver offers her some candy those heebie jeebies kick in and she says “No, thank you.”

Illustrator, Alexander Juhasz, brings Gracie and the other characters in this book to life with captivating expressions and beautiful colors. "This book teaches children to recognize and trust their feelings and to pay attention to the important information that feelings can provide,” said Dr. Joan Cela, one of the judges who chose this book as this year’s winner.

Ms. Reiling also recently launched a new website, www.adventuresofgracie.com, where her first book is being sold. She is currently working on a series of Gracie’s adventures that will explore other important topics in a gentle and helpful way.
